Delegates are invited to submit their abstract(s) online for consideration for oral presentation.

SGH Postgraduate Medical Institute (SGH-PGMI) is pleased to announce that we are organizing our second Regional Conference on Cost-effective Healthcare on 28 - 31 October 2006.

This has been brought about by the enthusiasm shown by the participants of our First conference in 2004. We have, in this second event adopted the theme of “Health Systems”.

The conference is open to all doctors, nurses, hospital executives, allied health professionals and healthcare professionals. Its main mission is to provide a platform for dialogue and interaction between the care-professionals, health-regulators, the pharmaceutical, medical devices and the insurance industries.

Guidelines For Abstract Submission

  1. Abstracts must be submitted in English only.
  2. All presenting authors are required to register and pay the appropriate registration fees for the oral presentation.
  3. Only accepted abstracts from paid registrants will be published in the Conference Abstract Book and on the Conference website.
  4. Submissions that do not conform to the established format will not be accepted for review by the Scientific Committee.

Abstract Content: Structure the text using the following headings

  1. State Aims of study.
  2. State Methods. This section should state the research study design used (e.g. SF-36 general health survey)
  3. Summarise Results obtained. This section should report the best estimate, the p-value or the 95% confidence interval for the outcome.
  4. State Conclusions reached. It is not satisfactory to state “The results will be discussed”.

Abstract Format

  1. Abstracts should contain not more than 300 words of text in Times New Roman, size 11 pts. Do NOT use a smaller font size.
  2. Abstract title must be in CAPITAL letters and bold print. Do not indent. Title should be concise and indicate the content of the abstract.
  3. Leave one blank line between the abstract title and author/affiliation block.
  4. Beginning on a separate line, list the author’s names (see example) underlining that of the presenting author. Do NOT include degrees or professional titles (Prof, Dr, MD, etc)
  5. On a separate line, type the names of departments, institutions and countries.
  6. Leave one blank line between the title/author block and the body of the abstract.
  7. Abstract text must be single-spaced and justified at the left margin only. Do not leave blank lines between paragraphs. Do not indent paragraphs.
  8. Use of standard abbreviations is desirable. Place special or unusual abbreviations in brackets after the full word the first time it appears. Use numerals to indicate numbers, except to begin sentences.
  9. Use bolded section headings where relevant.
  10. The use of tables, graphs and other types of images in abstracts are not permitted.

Submission Instructions

  1. Click onto the “To Submit Abstract Online” button at the end of this page.
  2. You will reach the “Registration for User ID” page where you are required to create your own Userid and Password as a first-time user. You will then receive an auto-email informing you of the ID and password you have created.
  3. After obtaining your ID and Password, you can now login into the online submission system.
  4. It will bring you to the personal particulars page. Complete your personal particulars and click “Submit Particulars”.
  5. Upon submission of personal particulars, you will then see the main menu page where you can choose to submit your abstract or register for the conference.
  6. For abstract submission, please click on to “To Submit New Abstracts/ Amend Submitted Abstracts, click here.”
  7. Please type your abstract over the submission template and save the file in MSWord (File type: DOC, doc).
  8. In the online submission page, please complete the required fields (e.g. Title of Submission, Topics, etc). Click onto the “Browse” button to attach your abstract file.
  9. Subsequently, click onto the “Upload Submission” button to submit your abstract.
  10. You will receive an auto-email containing your “Title of Submission” and “Submission ID” for each submission you’ve made. Please refer to your Submission ID for future correspondences with the secretariat.
  11. If you are submitting more than one story/ abstract, please use back the same user ID. Do not create multiple IDs because the same ID can be used to submit either an abstract or a story.
