The IHEA Econ-Omics Special Interest Group is pleased to invite you to a webinar with Dr Melanie Lloyd, Monash University and Dr Hadley Smith, from Harvard Medical School exploring Distributional Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (DCEA) and its role in informing health policy decisions to advance health equity.

The webinar will take place from 6-7pm Wednesday 8 October EDT (UTC-4) / 9-10am Thursday 9 October AEDT (UTC+11).
This webinar will be of particular interest to health economists, policy-makers, public health professionals, and anyone interested in integrating equity into economic evaluations of health interventions.

Speakers:

Dr Melanie Lloyd – Research Fellow, Health Economics and Policy Evaluation Research (HEPER) Group, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University

Dr Lloyd will introduce the foundational principles of DCEA, highlighting how it differs from traditional cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) and outlining the essential steps in transitioning from CEA to DCEA. Using a case study on lifestyle interventions for preventing gestational diabetes, she will illustrate how different implementation strategies influence equitable healthcare delivery – and the trade-offs that decision-makers must weigh when aiming for both efficiency and equity.

Dr Hadley Stevens Smith – Assistant Professor of Population Medicine, Division of Child Health Research and Policy (CHeRP), Precision Medicine Translational Research (PROMoTeR) Center, Department of Population Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute

Dr Smith will explore equity considerations within the field of genomics. She will provide a framework for assessing distributional impacts in genomic medicine, discuss the importance of data equity and evidence standards, and illustrate how DCEA may be integrated into HTA processes to support more equitable decision-making in precision health.
