I am an Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Guayaquil – Ecuador, where I also serve at the Centre for Economic Research (CIEC). I obtained my PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona (awarded Excellent – Cum Laude), an MSc in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics, and a BA in Economics from the Catholic University of Santiago of Guayaquil.

My research lies at the intersection of health, development, and applied econometrics, focusing on how environmental, social, and institutional factors influence health and education outcomes. I have published in JAERE, Violence & Gender, Women’s Studies International Forum, Frontiers in Public Health, and Cancer Investigation, and participated in the 2023 NBER Summer Institute (Children). My work examines pesticide exposure and newborn health, gender-based violence, and public-health responses to shocks. Beyond academia, I have led applied research with the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Labor, and the National Tax Authority, bridging evidence and policymaking in low- and middle-income contexts.

My involvement in IHEA as an Early Career Researcher has been active and long-standing. I have presented at three IHEA World Congresses (2021, 2023, 2025) and I am part of the local organizing team for the IHEA 2027 World Congress in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Through these roles, I have seen how the association provides an enriching forum for high-quality research and a vital platform for mentorship and professional growth for ECRs worldwide.

If elected as ECR Director representing the Global South, I would enhance IHEA’s inclusiveness by ensuring that ECRs from low- and middle-income countries are visible, supported, and connected. I would prioritize:

Mentorship and capacity-building: Expanding opportunities linking Global South ECRs with senior scholars through structured mentorship, online workshops, and peer networks.

Visibility and inclusion: Promoting greater representation of Global South research in IHEA congresses, working groups, and publications.

Institutional collaboration: Strengthening partnerships between IHEA and universities, ministries, and research centers to advance health economics and expand participation.

Outreach and dissemination: Leveraging IHEA’s platforms, including social media, to showcase ECR achievements and foster equitable global engagement.

If entrusted with your vote, I will dedicate my efforts to amplifying the voices of Global South ECRs and ensuring that IHEA remains a truly global platform for collaboration and growth. My experience in research leadership, mentorship, and regional coordination equips me to represent early career researchers effectively and to ensure that the Global South continues to play a substantive role in shaping the future of our discipline.

IHEA has been instrumental in my professional development, providing access to a global network of scholars who value rigor and inclusivity, and I am committed to extending that same support to others. It would be an honor to serve the ECR community and contribute to the association’s continued growth through collaboration, equity, and evidence-based impact.
